If you've recently purchased a new car and want a few more frills to add to the mix, or are looking to give your old vehicle a new lease on life, add-ons are a great way to maximize your car's potential. Not everyone has the funds to opt for the vehicle that is fully loaded with the latest and greatest features, but that shouldn't mean that you have to do without. Actually, by installing some of these add-ons yourself instead of getting them pre-loaded, you may end up saving more money in the long run. Some of these add-ons range from the practical like the backup camera system, to the more aesthetic like fender flares. Here is a breakdown of each add-on and hopefully you'll be able to prioritize which is better for you and your car:

1) Back up camera system: Out of all the add-ons for your vehicle, the backup camera system is the probably the one that you will get the most practical use out of. Pesky blind spots are a thing of the past with a back up camera system. A car or truck back up camera system gives the driver the confidence they need to reverse without worrying about hitting people or inanimate objects.

2) Bug shields: These are great if you do a lot of highway driving. If you have ever had the unfortunate task of scraping dried bug carcasses off of your windshield or front bumper, you'll probably be the first in line for a bug shield. These handy products save you a lot of tedious work and save your vehicle paint job as well!

3) Fender flares: Fender flares may not work for every model of vehicle, but if you drive a truck, they could be very beneficial. Their purpose is to protect your vehicle's front and rear wheels from road debris, water, mud, snow, rock chip and other potentially harmful elements.

4) Bike racks: Families, and those outdoors enthusiasts will benefit greatly from a bike rack. There are newer models that are extremely easy to install and remove, in addition to the classic models that require a more permanent assembly. All in all, installing a bike rack on your vehicle is a great idea. Just think of how much your car's interior will appreciate you not cramming dirty bicycles inside of it!

5) iPod Docking station: If you're a music junkie, or just like the freedom of being able to have control over what you listen too, an iPod docking station is a crucial vehicle add-on for you. Generally, docking stations charge your iPod, and give you an easier to use interface to control its basic operations.

All in all, when you're shopping around for the perfect vehicle add-ons, two things to consider are your budget and your direct needs. See how your needs fit into that budget and the selection process should be much easier. Another tip to keep in mind is that no vehicle add on should interfere with the safety of your vehicle, if you feel like an accessory would interfere with the smoothness of your car's operations and in turn, hinder your safety, you should skip it.
